Hotel in Vegas provides a break from Vegas

A CHANGE OF PACE

While in Las Vegas it sometimes feels that a change of pace would be welcome. A meal without the background of flashing lights and spinning reels.

A walk through a hotel without a gambling background.

Try the Artisan Hotel and Spa, a non-gaming boutique hotel at 1501W.Sahara Ave., between Las Vegas Boulevard and Interstate 15.

Entering the hotel is like walking back in the past to a 1914 Parisian Left Bank hotel. It is both mysterious and elegant with chandeliers and dark wood features.

Staying there is also an adventure because every room is different.

Eating at the restaurant is relaxing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner service are available with a menu that is reasonable and unusual. Sandwiches run $9 to $12 and entries run $20 to $30. There are seven desserts, all listed at $9.

There is a lobster BLT sandwich available and a side dish of lobster mac-n-cheese for $2. Triple Threat Crème Brule and Chocolate Thunder are two dessert offerings.

The lounge has a clubroom style with happy hours and a DJ spinning tunes from 10 p.m. to dawn on Friday and Saturday nights.

A few hours here and you may forget where you are. But when the urge to take some risks with your money hits, just walk out the front door.
